About The Teacher


Jawanza Amennun

Jawanza “^SEHU?!.” Amennun began practicing yoga in 1992 on the island of Okinawa, Japan while stationed as a young marine in 3rd FSSG Battalion. He was formally introduced to the practice, called Shi Shou, by an elder priest of the ancestral religion of Shinto. Later, he studied with the Integral Yoga Institute of Fair Lawn, NJ, the Ausar Auset Society of Brooklyn and has had a host of teachers and independent study that include amongst others, Kemetic or Egyptian Yoga, Taoist Yoga (Tai Chi/ Chi Kung) as well a the teachings of the Bihar School of Yoga. He is a former member of the IAYT, the International Association of Yoga Therapists and wrote and implemented a yoga program tailored for patients suffering from alcohol & drug addiction while working as an addictions counselor upon completion of his Bachelor's in Psychology/Fine Arts at Felician College in 2000. As a yogi, sculptor & poet who serves as the main instructor of the Lakshmi Holistic Ats Center located within the Castle Braid Artist Community, he intends to bring a fusion of the visual, performing & literary arts to the practice of yoga in the west. And his endeavor is to partner with like minded yoga teachers to give Castle Braid & the community of Bushwick a yoga studio that inspires creativity & promotes enjoyment as a way of life though the discipline.
